Guide

Why Learn Quran Online?

A generation ago, a Muslim family in Toronto or Manchester who wanted their child taught by a properly qualified Quran teacher had two options: whoever happened to live nearby, or nobody. Online classes removed that constraint entirely. The pool of teachers is no longer the ones within driving distance — it is the ones with Ijazah anywhere in the world, and you can be matched with one who suits your child specifically.

The second change is subtler and matters more. In a local weekend madrasah, one teacher may sit with fifteen children for two hours, which works out at roughly eight minutes of individual attention each. In a one-on-one online class, a thirty-minute lesson is thirty minutes of your child reciting and being corrected. That is not a small improvement in efficiency; it is a different activity.

The practical advantages

  • Access to genuinely qualified teachers. Ijazah-certified tutors who have taught non-Arab, English-speaking students for years — not simply whoever is available locally.

  • Individual attention on every single class. Mistakes are corrected the moment they happen, which is the only reliable way to fix pronunciation. Uncorrected repetition is how errors become permanent.

  • Scheduling that survives real life. Classes fit around school, work and prayer times in your own timezone, and can be rescheduled when the week goes sideways.

  • No commute, no drop-off. For families running two or three children to a weekend madrasah, removing the travel often adds back several hours a week.

  • A calmer environment for the student. Many children — particularly shy ones — participate far more freely at home with one teacher than in a room of fifteen peers.

  • Lower cost than most in-person tuition. Private one-on-one tuition online typically costs less per hour than group classes at a local institute.

Why Tajweed is the part you cannot skip

Arabic is a precise language in which the difference between two letters made a few millimetres apart in the mouth is the difference between two unrelated words. Recite the Quran with the wrong articulation point and you are, quite literally, saying something other than what was revealed. This is why the science of Tajweed exists, and why it has been transmitted from teacher to student for fourteen centuries rather than from books alone.

It is also why apps and video courses hit a hard ceiling. They can show you what a letter should sound like; they cannot hear what you actually produced. Every one of our classes is live and one-on-one precisely because correction has to run in both directions.

As Allah commands in Surah Al-Muzzammil: وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا — “and recite the Quran with measured recitation” (73:4).

What to look for in an online Quran academy

Ask whether the tutor holds Ijazah and whether you will have the same tutor every week — consistency matters enormously for children. Ask whether classes are genuinely one-on-one rather than small groups. And take a trial class before paying, watching for one thing in particular: does the tutor correct you in the moment, or read through the whole page and say “well done” at the end? A tutor who does not interrupt is not teaching.

We offer three free classes for exactly this reason. Assess us the way you would assess any teacher entrusted with the Quran, and enroll only if the teaching stands up.
